Obama Wants longer school days; I am pissed off.

Here’s a comment I made on comments people were making on how the Japanese are SO much smarter than us:

“I’ve been reading a lot of comments and I have to talk about one thing: Japanese Kids.They are taught to be RESPECTFUL. In their schools they can learn way more because you don’t have some trash disrupting the teacher every 5 seconds. If our parents taught us to be half as respectful as the Japanese we would gain about 6 more hours of teaching a week because the teacher wouldn’t stop 20 times during class.Seriously, think about it.They don’t allow trash into their schools and they are taught to be respectful from the time they are little. Most kids here are neglected by their parents and most aren’t told how to behave.So putting kids in school for 9 hours isn’t the answer, knocking some respect into them and their trashy parents is the answer.”

Here is my original comment on the issue:

As a Student, I have to disagree with Obama’s plan. First, kids need some down time. I hardly have time to do everything I want to do in the day, and i get home at 3. I can only imagine the stress of getting home at 6. And I’m an All A’s student! Imagine the stress an average kid would be under!Second, kids in countries like Japan were raised with a large amount of school time, you can’t just change the school day and expect all the kids to adjust properly. Sure, I’ll live, but it will be pretty hard.Third, What happened to social life? I get home at 3. I do homework from 4-5, then eat from 5-6, then finish homework until 7. I get ready for the next day until around 7:30, then I have 2 hours to wind down.Now let’s look at a 9 hour school day.I’d get home at 6, eat dinner until 7, then do homework until 9. Then I would get 30 minutes to get ready for the next day and 30 minutes to socialize.”fun.”I just hope this doesn’t really happen.
